Year 3 - 6 students from St Margaret Mary’s Primary Merrrylands have won a week-long NSW maths challenge through mangahigh.com – an online teaching resource for maths.
The competition, held from 17 - 23 March, included primary and secondary schools from around the state and students scored an impressive 2,655 points to be crowned the NSW maths champions for 2014.
As a result, the school was awarded a $1000 voucher, medals and a celebratory treat for the top class.
Throughout the week, the participation and enthusiasm from students was phenomenal. According to principal Kevin Mills the increase in engagement and application towards maths shown by students has been excellent.
The activities on Mangahigh are based on the Australian curriculum and are delivered through online games-based learning,’ said Kevin. Each game covers specific learning outcomes and is designed to adapt in difficulty to the ability of the student in order to make the user experience engaging, entertaining and personal.
