A very excited group of Kindergarten children went to Calmsley Hill Farm on Monday, the 28th of July.
At the farm, we saw a lot of animals. The best sight was the beautiful peacock that greeted us with his feathers like a fan. There were a lot of chickens, ducks and geese and also some turkeys pecking around in the dirt.
We saw a cow, a bull and a calf. We all took turns to milk the cow. The fat pig was looking at her piglings. We learnt that the mother pig is called a sow and the father pig is called a boar.
We patted the fluffy duckling and the soft rabbit. We also stroked the sheep and saw newborn lambs.
We were so lucky to watch the farm shows. We watched the farm dogs rounding up the sheep. The dogs work really hard at the farm. Some children took turns to crack a whip with Farmer Mac. It seemed easy, but when the children tried, it was very hard. Miss O’ Brien said that she knows how to crack a whip.
The last show was the sheep shearing. Farmer Mac took off the sheep’s fleece using a machine. We also got to bring some wool back with us.
